Ali Rose (Christina Aguilera) is a young singer who adores the stage. When the chance comes to leave town and start anew, Ali realizes its going to take more than just songbird to realize her dream.
The film starts with Ali working in a restaurant. Her boss hasn't paid the workers for the previous month, so Ali takes what he owes her from the cash register. After planning to leave, she packs up her belongings (Something's Got A Hold On Me). She gets a ticket to Los Angeles and gets a small apartment in Hollywood. She hides a couple hundred dollars away and starts her search for places to audition. After many failed attempts she wanders around until night. When she hears music and notices a woman dressed in provocative clothing. She goes into the building and gets her first view of the Burlesque dancers led by Cher (Welcome to Burlesque). Ali meets Jack the bartender and decides she wants to be on the stage after being mesmerized by the performance. Jack tells her to go talk to Tess (Cher) for an audition. She goes to talk to Tess and gets rejected.
